Biography

Maurizio Deiana is a pianist and conductor who was born in Italy.

He received his first training in piano at the "G.P. da Palestrina" State Academy of Music in Cagliari, where he completed his bachelor's degree with high marks.

He then extended his studies at the École Normale de Musique "Alfred Cortot" in Paris with the Russian pianist, Ludmila Berlinskaia, daughter of Valentin Berlinsky, a member of the Borodin Quartet.

He also completed postgraduate master's programs in piano, chamber music, and Lied interpretation at the Franz Liszt School of Music in Weimar. 

From 2009 to 2011, he furthered his studies at the "Steinway Society" piano academy in Verona with Federico Gianello.

In 2011, he was invited as a pianist to the Impuls Festival for New Music in Saxony-Anhalt, where he played Pierrot Lunaire op. 21 by Arnold Schönberg and the world premiere of 'Rose rot - Nachtigall tot' by Julian Lembke in a series of six concerts.

After studying in Weimar, he was offered his first position as a solo repetiteur with conducting duties at the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater Halberstadt from the 2011/12 season, where he was involved in productions of Carmen, My Fair Lady and Vampyr by Heinrich Marschner, among others. 

In 2014, he served  as solo repetiteur at the International Gluck Festival in Nuremberg for the production of the opera, Paride und Helena under the baton of Andreas Spering and director Sebastian Hirn.


From 2014 to 2019, he studied conducting with Karl-Heinz Bloemeke and Florian Ludwig at the Detmold University of Music, completing his bachelor’s degree in orchestral conducting. 

Alongside his studies, he also worked as a solo repetiteur at the Detmold State Theatre and Theater Bielefeld, where he was involved in productions of Otello, Rigoletto, Le Nozze di Figaro, La Traviata, Orpheus in the Underworld, Werther, La Bohème, Die Zauberflöte, Zar und Zimmermann and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, among others. 

From 2017 to 2022, he was a lecturer for accompaniment at the Detmold University of Music. 

In the 2023/24 season, he was involved as a pianist in the production 'Nixon in China' by John Adams and 'Meisterklasse' by Terrence McNally at Koblenz Theatre.


As a conductor, he gained important experience with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie (NWD), the Südwestfälische Philharmonie Hilchenbach, the orchestra of the Landestheater Detmold, the Detmolder Kammerorchester (DKO), the Collegium Musicum Bielefeld and the Uniorchester Bielefeld. 


He received important guidance  as a conductor and pianist from Eugen Wangler in Frankfurt, Symeon Ioannidis in Berlin, Gunter Kahlert in Weimar, Fabio Bidini in Berlin, Riccardo Zadra in Padova and Ivan Törzs in Detmold.
